Groton - We’re on the map!
There is something special about Groton, that is it is not often heard of and definitely not making any significant marks on the map but with the new tourism plan in Groton, it is sure to bring in tourists from all over the world to a whole new world of the unknown. Groton is actually situated in Connecticut, US. It is located along Thames River and Mystic River and only a few miles away from the Long Island Sound. It is estimated that Groton has a population of about 39,000 people calculated in the year 2000.
There is a long history lesson regarding Groton. Groton is founded in the year1705 after separating from New London. However, I shall leave it at that. Time to move on to more interesting topics. What are the attractions of Groton? There are two main attractions. One is the Battle of Groton Heights and another one is the Gungywamp. The Battle of Groton Heights was a battle of American Revolutionary War thus what you can see at the site is the fort and a museum. There is also a tunnel-like passage that was used during war. As for Gungywamp, it is an archaeology site consisting of artifacts dated way back to 2000-770BC. There are remains of houses and multiple stone chambers. It is sure to entice your curiosity to know more.
Other than that, Groton has a lot more to offer. There is an Oceanology Project ongoing that allows you to discover more with the technology of floating laboratory. The people of Groton celebrate the Greenway’s River Festival inJune every year to commemorate the Nashua River. There is a U.S Navy Submarine Force Museum that features the finest submarine collections of documents, artifacts and photographs. So, what are you waiting for? Start packing and head to Groton at once. It is not like you get to travel to a part of the world that you haven’t heard of.
